Crying and Pranic Liberation

"Crying is one of the highest devotional songs.
One who knows crying knows spiritual practice. If you can cry with a pure heart, nothing else compares to such a prayer. Crying inclues all the principles of yoga."

I found this quote in a book that was passed onto me by a student (thanks Diane) friend. I was actually in bed just now and was thinking about prana and the liberation of the life force and it got me to thinking...

Does crying liberate the prana?

In some ways it would certainly have to. If you have ever had a good body shaking, belly pulsating, solid cry from the guy that was so raw that perhaps it was even a silent cry  for a moment for the simple sake and fact that it just came from the deepest part of the core being... I would say that it liberates the hell out of the pranic flow! This is more than likely the reason for exhaustion after a cry like this. One is completely taxed and without an ounce of energy- in my own experience, I would go further and say even a numbness can be present.

There are a few places in my mind that got this to brewing of course, and one of them is that on my "goals" listed here on zaadz I have writen that I want to really learn to liberate my prana= REALLY liberate.. Shiva talks about this often enough (she's also the master at it in my opinion) that it's left it's impact inside my conscious. In my goal of this liberation, I'm not suggesting that in a solid (I'm not talking just squirting tears) wheeping moment that the answer has been found in this experience- what I am linking is just what Swami-ji says in that a pure and honest cry can truly be one of the highest forms of devotion there is and looking that devotion in the eye in such raw vulnerable form;THAT has got to be on the same path as the liberation of prana itself.

Crying is an interesting thing to me. Carolyn Myss writes in "Anatomy of Spirit" that our tears change "on a cellular level" (into this phrase at the moment-Gale that's for you as well ;) when we cry "happy cry" vs when we cry "sad cry". When those tears are studied in labs, the chemistry is different. Since I mention her book- she also writes that "our biography becomes our biology". Carolyn says that our life experiences have left a photograph on our cells and that our emotional experiences leave their imprint on them as well.

Guess that means it's important to cry more happy tears than sad tears since it's all leaving a trail!

May the heart be at peace.

That is really interesting about sad tears and happy tears having different makeups. I am going to have to check that book out! Thanks for such a neat post =)

Excellent post!

Truth….. crying heals…. deep crying cleanses….. belly retching crying purifies the cells, cleans out the long held guilt, self-hate, anger, disappointment….  liberates the soul… opens the heart  to loving wisdom… compassion… understanding…. crying is devotion.

And, yes, there are the sad & the happy tears….. the words of the soul.

Peace & Joy to all,
PJ
